"Guild Wars Scythe"
This is a design for a Dervish-wielded scythe, in the video game Guild Wars. The design was elicited from the "Design a Weapon" contest announced on March 1st, 2007. I chose a scythe design because of the favoritism I show towards the weapon type, given my history of using a grim reaper as an avatar figure. I decided on a sort of "backbone scythe" because of my frustration with the existing weapon designs in Guild Wars. Most of the scythes in the game were boring to me, usually consisting of a simple pole and a small, curved blade more similar to a scimitar than a scythe. So, I set out to draw a weapon that I wanted. While drawing this I was reminded of how difficult bones are to draw, and how much they resemble my rocky textures. Also, drawing large metal bladesis difficult, as there's no real room for detail. The existing scythes in Guild Wars tend to have very tiny blades, resembling a wheat sickle, or a trowel blade. The blade on this scythe is monstrous by comparison. Really, the scythe itself is monstrous in most every respect in comparison to ANet designs. I can't paint, if you know me. However, I intended for the blade to be a soot-like black/grey, with the edges colored gold. The rune area on the main blade is intended to have gold lettering with a black metal emblem area that's of a slightly different hue of gray. The bone should be self-explanatory, and the fleshy substance covering it I intended to be a grayish brown, like decaying meat. In my head, at least, if given the chance to name the weapon, I'd call it Legacy of the Damned. I've had that name in my head ever since I was given the ability to name weapons in Vagrant Story for the Playstation 1, and it certainly fits this weapon. |
