"Species Female"

This is the female of the species represented in my previous concept. Originally, this began as simply Erebus, a creature concept I've had ever since I started mimicing certain other designs. Ironically, in my original plan for a then-unnamed story, Reklaw was to be a main protaganist while Erebus was to be the anti-ego to Reklaw. Now, not only has Erebus' gender changed (yikes), but the story has been altered with Reklaw being a sort of habitual antagonist while Erebus is a warmongering protagonist, of sorts. It's all very convuluted, I assure you.

Anyway, this drawing came a day after the aforementioned male concept. I, knowingly as I drew, imitated the design of my work from the previous day. I'm still unprepared for a fully realized form for the females of the species, especially since they don't all look alike, varying in the boney, rock-like structures that protrude all over their bodies and in their skeletal makeups. The male concept I am essentially finished imagining, aside from the main body. The female is reversed - the general shape of the body remains, but the configuration of the face and its minor details is still elusive.

The profile would actually have been more beneficial from the front, as that's what defines the character of the females (aside from the ever-present "grin"), while the males' side profile is definitive to themselves. Overall, the design isn't bad, and is definitely an improvement over the last as far as making it look less cartoony. Still, it fails to have the impact of the male in that it looks fiercesome without looking cliche.
